Don't you hate it when your favorite seasoning blend gets discontinued? Tone's Mediterranean Herb Seasoning blend was an all-purpose seasoning for me, so I had to make this copycat when they stopped producing it.
Try it on everything from salads to marinades!
Some blends use "specialty" ingredients that may be hard to find, but this blend keeps it simple with common ingredients that achieve that Mediterranean flavor.

Ingredients, Substitutions & Additions
Mediterranean flavors are subtle, layered, and herbaceous. You likely already have the seasonings in your pantry to achieve a Mediterranean flavor profile:
- Basil
- Paprika
- Garlic powder
- Salt - Omit for a no-salt version.
- Oregano
- Thyme
- Rosemary
- Marjoram - It has the flavor of oregano but is much more subtle. If you don't have marjoram, add half of the marjoram's amount in oregano, in addition the the oregano the recipe calls for.
This recipe does not include sugar, lemon flavoring, or fenugreek, all of which are said to be in Tone's blend.
Optionally, add dried lemon for brightness and zest, and/or onion powder (no more than half the amount of garlic).
How to Make Mediterranean Herb Seasoning
- Rosemary is rather large and pungent compared to the other spices, so crush it with the back of a spoon or mortar and pestle before adding it to the blend.
- Combine all the spices and store in a closed container.
- To Use: Stir the blend with the measuring spoon before scooping the desired amount. This will ensure even distribution.
Note:
When shaken, the bigger, leafy spices rise to the top, and the smaller spices fall to the bottom. This is why you stir the blend before each scoop.
Alternatively:
Combine the spices in a small blender or food processor to break them into equal sizes and a more cohesive blend.
How to Use It
This is an all-purpose seasoning for me because it adds flavor without overpowering the other ingredients. I always put it on my Simple Chickpea Salad, any fresh veggie salad, on eggs, and in my Greek yogurt dip.
